Proper maintenance is essential to extend the lifespan of your motorcycle and keep the engine performing at its best. One of the most important routine maintenance tasks is changing the engine oil, gear oil (for automatic scooters), and replacing the oil filter. Doing this regularly helps the engine run smoothly and efficiently.

How to Change Engine Oil, Gear Oil, and Replace the Oil Filter

1. Changing Engine Oil

Tools and Materials Needed

  • New engine oil (according to your motorcycle's specifications)
  • Socket wrench or spanner
  • Oil drain pan or container
  • Clean cloth
  • Gloves (optional)
Step
  1. Warm up the engine: Start the engine and let it run for 23 minutes to allow the oil to flow more easily.
  2. Keep the motorcycle upright: Use the center stand to ensure it stays level.
  3. Open the oil filler cap: This lets air in and helps the old oil drain more smoothly.
  4. Remove the drain bolt: Use a wrench to unscrew the oil drain bolt at the bottom of the engine and let the oil drain out completely.
  5. Install a new oil filter (if needed): Remove the old oil filter and replace it with a new one.
  6. Pour in new engine oil: Refill the engine with new oil based on the quantity specified in your motorcycles manual.
  7. Check the oil level: Use the dipstick or sight glass to ensure the oil level is correct.

2. Changing Gear Oil (for Automatic Motorcycles)

  2. Drain the old gear oil: Use a wrench to unscrew the bolt and let the oil drain out completely.
  3. Reinstall the bolt: Once drained, screw the bolt back in securely.
  4. Refill with new gear oil: Add the appropriate amount of new gear oil as specified in the manual.

3. Replacing the Oil Filter

Tools and Materials Needed

  • New oil filter
  • Oil filter wrench
